Borders are getting Broader

Some thoughts about Borders that I wrote when I had traveled to the Indo-Pak Border of Longewala in Jaisalmer:

Why do people create borders?
Why do they make gaps..
In the vast sea of air and water and sand
There is nothing that can be curbed
There is nothing that can be contained
Nothing that can separate…
The very thread that connects us all

You can measure these confinements
But can you own the singing stars, that fail to shine differently in the two separates?

A kilometer here, a kilometer there
Wish the roots of trees could understand these gates…
Through which they must grow..
With their one leg here and one leg there
You can arrest the human feet that dares to surpass its own partition
But can you cage the sparrows’ feet and the bugs?’

If people can draw lines on this human planet,
They must try to draw an arrow in the sky
And if the sky agrees to etch that demarcation…
People can settle on either side
On either side there are lives…
Of hundred other kinds

Why do people create borders?
Why do they make gaps?…
In the very soul that breathes
In each inhabitant that eats, drinks and sleeps.
