Some things are really difficult to put into words. Language limits experience. But since it’s our best aid, let me try attempting to articulate what my Guru means to me.
There are plenty of shlokas, scriptures, sermons, and books on the topic. However, each experience is a scripture in its own self.
My Guru is my teacher. Teacher of everything.
Purpose
They say, life is meaningless without a purpose, and not everyone is blessed with one. You really have to wear an archeologist’s hat and scout for what is your unique purpose in life.
That initiation of self-discovery is a gift that I received from my Guru.
And like every discovery is filled with adventures, life too is a means to surf out the treasures and more importantly relish the journey that unfolds as a result.
It is a divine process, because each day you come close to your center, to what truly moves you to do every single action.
Inspect your intention, purify yourself and persevere till you are truly living for fulfilling your purpose. That is where the drive for each of my actions is born.
Gratitude
Nothing in life should be taken for granted. Every single thing is a blessing if you look clearly. To be, to have, to do. To breathe, to laugh, to be able to experience tears on the skin of your face. To walk bare feet on the sand of the beach while seeing the sun sink into the horizon. To count stars, to track ants, to sing, to groove, o cook, to love and to give. To be alive is a blessing. Gratitude is a doorway to more blessings.
Awareness
The universe is infinite. There are countless known and unknown galaxies, meteorites, and suns all moving rhythmically for we don’t know what. Similarly, there are microcosmic beings breathing at an ocean-bed, or crawling on a mountain top, neighing in a valley, or mooing in a temple. In such a mighty place born out of the apparent Big Bang, what are we really? Maybe not even a Pale Blue Dot (apologies to Mr. Sagan). We are breathing, moving, and thinking. This very awareness has enormous potential to transform us. Why not jump onto the awareness train right this moment and endow ourselves with the gift of life?
The teacher is one of the many roles played by my Guru in my life.
With many such simple yet profound lessons, he has blessed my intellect and helped me navigate the expansive mystery of life a little better.
